Picture of the week: Shakotan Bluebird 910

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012

This Bluebird 910 shows you how a few simple adjustments make a perfect shakotan car:

Deep dished rims, cut springs to get it as low as possible, attach a (small) oil cooler to the bumper, air horn and a heart shaped neon light where the grille used to be.

Last year Phu already sent me some pictures of the awesome wheels he is creating. Earlier this week he sent me these pictures of a 12J wide SSR Longchamp XR4 he just made:

This one is specifically made for Auto Fashion’s ’73 drag Celica and by the looks of it that Celica is going to be just as awesome as its rims!

Here is another picture to show that shows that wide lip even more:

Phu’s business is to create awesome rims out of “unwanted” oldskool rims and I must say he is doing a great job! If you need his services: his business is called Araya Wheels.

Back in 2009 at the Tokyo Auto Salon a very beautiful G-nosed S30 was shown in the Mizuno Works corner:

This awesome 240ZG even made it to Speedhunters where it received major attention by Mike Garret!

So where is it today? Is it still alive?

Well, actually it is barely alive: (more…)

Exhaust of the Week: lightning Mark II

Saturday, June 9th, 2012

Lightning rod exhausts (or zigzag) are a very nice feature on the kaido racers, especially if they are mounted on the side of the car as done on this Mark II GX71:

Another nice detail on this Mark II is the lightning rod vinyl striping over the side of the car:

Friday Video: Kaido slot-car Racers

Friday, June 8th, 2012

This video by Take4Mickey put a huge smile on my face: he modded some scale models to run on his slot-car racetrack!

It brings back fond memories of me an my brother modding the hell out our Ford-Lotus slot-cars for our Fleischmann racetrack! First we modded them with pretty stickers, then painted them in weird colors and in the end we glued things to the body like ridiculous exhaust pipes with clouds of smoke coming out them and sprayed oil on the track to make sliding easier. I guess I was already into this stuff when I was a young boy. ;)
